The Red Devils are currently being linked with Real Madrid pair Alvaro Morata and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Lewandowski’s situation could spark the interest of Ed Woodward and Jose Mourinho.
Despite a superb total of 43 goals in 47 games in 2016/17, Lewandowski is not entirely happy with Bayern’s setup under Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Pep Guardiola as manager last summer.
According to the Independent, this could see Lewandowski bumped up a few places on United’s list of priorities up front, with the 28-year-old previously thought of as an unrealistic target.
While a move for Morata remains probable, it is claimed that Lewandowski would be more to United’s liking in terms of both his playing style and his profile.
Woodward has craved big-name signings since becoming executive vice-chairman in 2012, spending vast amounts on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Paul Pogba in recent years.
Lewandowski would be seen as another major coup, with the former Borussia Dortmund man firmly establishing himself as one of Europe’s most deadly finishers in the last six seasons.
It remains to be seen if United can lure Lewandowski away from Bayern, but his issues at the Allianz Arena are bound to give them and other clubs more optimism of doing a deal this summer.
